Paul Stewart and his father Jackie founded Paul Stewart Racing back in 1988 to contest the lower British formulae. It was always their intention to progress to the top level which came to fruition with the founding of Stewart Grand Prix in 1996. Ford was always a major backer and bought the team out in June 1999 before creating the foundations for a new Jaguar operation.
