Nick Wirth had undertaken design work on many recent Formula 1 cars when Max Mosley was a part owner of Simtek Research. With the backing of the Brabham family their debut year was especially fraught with the death of newcomer Roland Ratzenberger. The team pushed on but found themselves without the funds to continue during the 1995 season and sold its assets at auction later that year with Nick Wirth going on to work for Benetton in F1.
