Модели болидов McLaren (Great Britain)Principals: Bruce McLaren, Teddy Mayer, Ron Dennis.Base: Colnbrook, nr Slough/Woking, Surrey. Founded: 1963. Formed initially for Tasman racing, the team built its first sports car in 1964 and 1965 before Bruce left Cooper to tackle Formula 1 on his own. Initial success turned to tragedy when Bruce was killed testing a Can-Am car at Goodwood in 1970. With the help of Denny Hulme the team struggled on and established itself at the top during the mid 70s. A steady decline left the team floundering as the decade turned to a close and sponsors Marlboro instigated a merger with Ron Dennis''s Project Four Formula 2 operation. Teddy Mayer left soon after, whilst with the help of John Barnard''s revolutionary carbon-fibre monocoque, McLaren not only returned to the very top, but led the next major innovation in chassis design. With the departure of Prost and Senna, who scored six championships between them, the team entered a barren period culminating in the loss of the longest running sponsorship deal in Formula 1, switching from Marlboro to West for 1997. McLaren built up a formidable parthership with Mercedes culminating in the constructors'' title in 1998 and two drivers'' championships before moving to new-of-the-art facilities in 2004.
