Jaguar (Great Britain) 2000-2004

Principals: Neil Ressler/ Bobby Rahal/ Niki Lauda/ Tony Purnell.
Base: Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire.
Founded: 1935.
The name Jagiar first appeared in 1935 as a new model name in the Coventry based SS concern, but became synonymous with luxury and prestige sporting cars post-war. During the 1950s Jaguar was a dominant name in sports car racing with five wins at Le Mans, followed by a welcome victorious return in the late 1980s. Jaguar became part of the Ford empire and when the Stewart team was sold to Ford in June 1999 it was soon clear that the Jaguar name would emerge in its first attempt at the F1 World Championship. After a tricky first season, the Ford hierarchy brought in Bobby Rahal and then Niki Lauda in an attempt to capture the success it enjoyed in sports car racing. Further personnel changes saw Tony Purnell brought in to oversee the operation in 2003 but the team never lived up to its promise and was bought out by Red Bull at the end of 2004.
