Commissioned by Beppe Lucchini''s Brescia Motor Sport operation to build a chassis for his Scuderia Italia team. Dallara''s first car was the Wolf-Dallara Formula 3 car of 1978. Prior to this, he was a successful consultant designer, his work incuding the de Tomaso Formula 1 car and various road cars. Gianpaolo Dallara retains an active role in chassis design and assisted in all the following grand prix designs. Dallara chassis are still widely used in European lower formula racing and and also build chassis for the Indy Racing League series.
