The first car, known as MRD, appeared in 1961 and the early years up until 1970 saw Brabham and Tauranac produce a succession of winners in Formula 1 and lower formulae, as well as providing customer cars from New Haw factory. Ecclestone purchased the team in 1972 and from new premises continued the team''s winning ways, building Formula 1 team cars only. After a year out of the championship (1988), the team was sold to the Swiss financier Joachim Luhti and the marque began its slow decline until closing in late 1992 when owned by the Middlebridge group.
