BAR (Great Britain) 1999-2005

Principal: Craig Pollock & Adrian Reynard/ David Richards/ Nick Fry.
Base: Brackley, Northamptonshire.
Founded: 1997.
British American Racing was the brainchild of Craig Pollock, the business manager of Jacques Villeneuve. He joined forces with respected chassis constructor Adrian Reynard and arrived with American tobacco money to challenge the Formula 1 establishment. After buying out Tyrrell, they created a state-of-the-art factory and upset the FIA with a controversial dual sponsorship car livery. Reynard''s car had previously won the first time out in each category but, despite optimism, failed to score a point in this first season. At the launch of the 2002 car, there was a surprise announcement that Craig Pollock had left the team, with David Richards taking control. After a successful 2004 campaign David Richards was relinquished from his team leader role, being replaced by Nick Fry as Honda initially took a bigger share of the company, buying it completely at the end of the 2005 season...
