Arrows, Footwork (Great Britain) 1978-2002

Principals: Jackie Oliver, Alan Rees.
Base: Bletchley, Milton Keynes/ Leafield, Oxfordshire.
Founded: 1977.
Created as a breakaway from the Shadow team which later contested the design of the first Arrows FA1. The outfit took its name from the instigators - Franco Ambrosio, Alan Rees, Jack Oliver, Dave Wass and Tony Southgate. The team promised much, but has so far failed to notch up that all important first win after a record number of attempts. In 1990 Wataru Ohashi''s Japanese Footwork corporation tookover, renaming the cars Footwork from the beginning of the 1991 season and effectively reducing the remaining Rees and Oliver to employees. For the 1994 season Oliver and Rees were back in control and the old Arrows name returned to the team although the cars still raced as Footwork in the new livery. 1996 saw another change in ownership as Tom Walkinshaw took over the team in the early part of the season and began the move to a new headquarters in Leafield. From 1997 the car will revert to the original name with World Champion Damon Hill as main driver together with Yamaha and Bridgestone tyres. During the 2002 season the team struggled with mounting financial problems and finally bowed out after the German Grand Prix.
