AGS (1986-1991) France

Principal: Henri Julien.
Base: Gonfaron, nr Toulon/ Le Luc-en-Provence (1990).
Founded: 1970.
Automobiles Gonfaronaises Sportives was founded by Henri Julien, a driver and car-builder during the 60s. The first AGS (JH1) was built in 1970 for Formula France, the team progressing through other formulae until their Formula 1 debut in 1986 using a revamped Renault chassis. In 1988 most of the team defected to Coloni and in 1990 it was restructured under the direction of Hughes de Chaunac and relocated from the original Gonfaron base to the Var circuit near Le Luc-en-Provence. June 1990 saw another change - de Chaunac left the team and ownership passed to Cyril de Rouvre aho it turn, sold the majority shareholdings to Italians Gabriele Rafanelli and Patrizio Cantu in April 1991, only to see the team close before the end of that year.
